The material extracted by crushing is rough, so it is firmly bonded to cement mortars. Structures based on crushed stone are reliable. The scope of application depends on the characteristics of the material. Durable crushed stone is used for laying highways, suitable for drainage drains and as a base for railway tracks. The use of the material is not limited only to the construction sector, it is also suitable for landscape design. Architects use it to delimit space, beautify the territory and decorate flower beds. Another application of crushed stone is the housing and communal services sector. During winter ice, they are sprinkled on roads, reducing sliding. For this purpose, fine-grained crushed stone (screening) is used.

The use of the type of crushed stone depends on its characteristics:

The fraction. Traditionally, there are 5 types, depending on the particle size. Dropout fr.0-5(10), fr5-20, fr.20-40, fr40-70(80), more than 70. The most common fr5-20, 20-40, 40-70, they are used for the construction of highways, when pouring load-bearing building structures, as well as for the construction of railways and drainage. The rest are used for decorative purposes and for sprinkling roads in winter.
Density and strength. These values range from 1.2 to 3 g/cm3 and determine the material's resistance to prolonged mechanical stress. The indicator depends on the quantitative content of impurities of weak rocks. The strength of crushed stone is determined by the indicators M400-M1400, the higher – the stronger.
Frost resistance. This parameter indicates how many times the crushed stone can freeze and thaw without loss of strength. There are three types, depending on the cycles (from F15 to F300).
Shade. It can be very diverse, this parameter affects not only the decorative component, but also the adhesion of the material.
Radioactivity. This indicator determines the scope of application of crushed stone. If the level of radioactivity is up to 370 Bq/kg, then it is allowed to use it for residential structures, up to 740 Bq/ kg — for road construction. This parameter should be given special attention when buying materials, as human health directly depends on it.
