Sand is a sedimentary rock, it differs in fraction and composition. It may contain:

quartz;
spar and other substances in various proportions.
The particles of the material are characterized by a more rough structure, which improves adhesion to all types of substrates. Coarse-grained composition is used for heavy and light concrete mortars, in the thorough construction and manufacture of precast concrete, prefabricated and monolithic structures. Fine-grained is suitable for plastering and finishing.
