Characteristics of quartz sand Quartz sand is a product of extraction and classification of natural rounded sand with a high content of silicon oxide (at least 98%). The material is a monomineral, so the amount of impurities in it is minimal – no more than 2%. Quartz sand contains clay particles, iron oxides, carbonates, and feldspar, the concentration of which determines the shade of the grains: gray, brownish, or milky white.
The material has the following characteristics:
Specific gravity is approximately 1,650 kg/cubic meter; particle size is on average 0.14–3 mm ; the content of clay impurities is less than 1 %; humidity – no more than 0.5%. The fundamental difference between quartz sand and other types is its high intergranular porosity. It allows the material to absorb various impurities, including manganese and iron oxides. In this regard, quartz sand is used in water treatment and water treatment systems.
Areas of application Smooth, smooth, rounded particles have led to the use of bulk materials in the production of decorative finishing materials, interior and facade plasters. It is also used in landscape design, in the manufacture of dry building mixes, glass. The shape and hardness of the particles are optimal for metal sandblasting.
